Most homes in Lincoln need a gutter clean once or twice a year — usually late autumn after the leaves fall, and again in spring. Properties near mature trees may need more. The city isn't especially wet. The Met Office's Waddington station, just south of Lincoln, averaged about 615 mm of rain a year between 1991 and 2020. But June, July and October were the wettest months, at around 60 mm each, so summer downpours test gutters as much as winter rain does. A gutter half full of silt can handle drizzle but overflows in the first heavy shower.
