In total, 343 features were built between 2023 and 2025, all designed to keep surface water out of the combined sewer.

Where a downpipe still runs into the sewer, the grit washed off your roof ends up in the same pipe as the kitchen sink waste.

Ground conditions help here. Severn Trent chose Mansfield partly because British Geological Survey data showed its rocks are permeable enough for infiltration, and 213 of the new features soak water into the ground, either fully or partly.
