Planning an extension in Lincoln? Anglian Water publishes standard criteria for building over, or within three metres of, a public sewer. You only avoid consulting it if every one is met: the sewer is less than three metres deep and 150 mm or smaller, no more than six metres of it passes under the building, there are no manholes inside the footprint, it flows by gravity, the foundations protect it, the pipe isn't pitch fibre or asbestos cement, and the building isn't a new-build property. If the pipe turns out to be pitch fibre or in poor condition, you may have to re-lay the section under the building at your own cost.
