Fast Help When Your Drains Can’t Wait In Leicester
Sewage backing up, a manhole overflowing or no working toilet in Leicester? Call 07300 600 950. Our engineers clear blocked drains, toilets, gullies and manholes across Leicester (LE1–LE5) 7 days a week from 6am to 8pm, with emergency call-outs 365 days a year, no call-out fee and the price agreed before we start.
We don’t quote made-up response times. When you call, we check where our engineers are and tell you when we can realistically be in Leicester, and we prioritise sewage inside homes and flooding. Once the drain is flowing, we test it and explain the cause, with a camera check if we think a pipe is damaged.
What We Know About Leicester
Leicester's most recent large flood came in the early hours of Monday 6 January 2025. The Environment Agency gauge at Evington recorded 28.4mm of rain, most of it between midnight and 6am, falling on saturated, partly frozen ground as snow melted. The city council's Section 19 report logged 188 reports of internal flooding, 199 once reports made to Severn Trent and the Environment Agency were added, and found that the swollen Soar probably left sewers and highway drains unable to discharge. Many of those households had flooded the year before and were under-insured.
In an emergency, who you call depends on where the water is coming from. The council's flooding contacts page sends sewer problems to Severn Trent on 0800 783 4444, blocked road gullies to the council on 0116 454 1000, and River Soar flooding to the Environment Agency on 0800 80 70 60. Call 999 if anyone is in danger. If sewage from the public sewer gets inside your home, the Guaranteed Standards Scheme has, since 2 July 2025, set a payment equal to your annual sewerage charge, with a minimum of £300 and a maximum of £2,000, and half that for flooding outside.
A drain that serves only your house is yours to sort out, and that's where we come in. Call 07300 600 950: we work 6am to 8pm every day and take emergency call-outs 365 days a year, with no call-out fee. Drain unblocking starts from £120 + VAT, and we agree the price before we touch the drain.
Whose Drain Is It?
Severn Trent Water owns the public sewers in Leicester, plus any drain you share with neighbours or that runs beyond your boundary. Report a problem with those on 0800 783 4444 (24 hours) or online.
Drains that serve only your property and sit inside your boundary are your responsibility — that's the work we do. Road gullies are Leicester City Council's. If you rent, your landlord is normally responsible for the drains.
What To Do Until Our Engineer Arrives
Stop using water
Don’t flush, run taps, shower or use the washing machine or dishwasher — every litre adds to the overflow. Ask everyone in the house to do the same.
Keep clear of dirty water
Sewage carries harmful bacteria. Keep children and pets away, wear rubber gloves if you must touch anything, and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.
Leave heavy covers alone
Manhole covers are heavy, can crack and can trap fingers, and an open chamber is a fall hazard. Leave lifting to our engineers.
Skip the chemicals
Don’t pour drain unblocker, bleach or caustic soda into a blocked drain. It rarely works and can splash back when the drain is opened.
Stay safe around electrics
If water is near sockets or appliances, keep away. Only switch off at the consumer unit if you can reach it from a dry place.
Check with neighbours and take photos
If next door has the same problem, it may be the public sewer. Photos of any damage will help if you make an insurance claim.
