Buying a home in Hinckley? A pre-purchase survey tells you whether the drains are sound before you exchange — particularly worthwhile on older properties with clay pipes, homes with mature trees nearby, or houses that have been extended. See our homebuyer drain surveys.

Planning an extension in Hinckley? If you're building within 3 metres of a public sewer, Severn Trent may require a build-over agreement, and a CCTV survey of the sewer is usually part of a formal application. We can survey the pipe before you finalise your plans.

What We Know About Hinckley

Severn Trent has spent heavily on Hinckley's sewers. The borough's 2025 flood risk assessment lists two completed schemes: a £1.8m Coventry Road project, finished in November 2012, which laid about 1,600m of new sewer and storage pipe, and a £1.5m Island Close scheme, finished in September 2017, to add capacity for intense rain. In August 2024 Severn Trent began installing a 330,000-litre storm tank beneath the Sparkenhoe Business Centre car park on Southfield Road, part of a £6.7m programme with 1.5km of new pipes.

That work stops at the public sewer. The assessment notes that sewer flooding is caused not only by heavy rain but by blockages, collapses, equipment failure and groundwater leaking into pipes. It adds that the Sewers for Adoption rules in force since 1980 size new public surface water pipes for rain with roughly a 3.3% annual chance, but smaller private systems were long left out of that standard. Your own drain may be older, narrower or in worse condition than the main it feeds.

A camera survey shows what is actually there: cracks, open joints, roots, or a section that has dropped. The footage also shows whether groundwater is seeping in through joints, one of the causes the assessment names. That is worth knowing before you buy, before you build, or when the same gully keeps backing up. Our Hinckley surveys start from £149 + VAT, with the price confirmed before we start.

CCTV Drain Survey Hinckley: FAQs

Upgrades add capacity to the public network, but they don't change the private pipe between your house and the sewer. If that run is cracked, partly blocked or sagging, it will still be slow in any weather. A survey shows whether the fault is on your side, which is cheaper to fix once you know exactly where it is.

Our CCTV drain surveys start from £149 + VAT, including the MSCC5-coded PDF report, footage, stills and drain map. The final price depends on how many runs there are and whether the pipes need jetting first; we confirm it when you book, and there's no call-out fee.

We're about 65 minutes away and work 7 days a week, so tell us your exchange date or build deadline when you book and we'll fit the survey around it. Most domestic surveys take one to two hours on site.

Often, yes. Severn Trent lets simple extensions over small sewers self-certify, but a formal build-over agreement usually needs plans, a CCTV survey and a fee. Check Severn Trent's building-over guidance for your project.

Yes. The footage and report show exactly where a defect is, which is what Severn Trent will want to see if the problem is in a shared or lateral drain rather than your private pipe.
