Drainage In Collingham: What We Know
The Fleet, a tributary of the Trent managed by the Trent Valley Internal Drainage Board, runs along the western edge of the village. During Storm Henk in January 2024 both rivers came out of bank and 12 Collingham properties flooded internally, on Low Street and Carlton Ferry Lane, Nottinghamshire County Council found. With the rivers high, surface water had no usable outfall.
Collingham grew from two medieval settlements, North and South Collingham, strung along the parallel High Street and Low Street. Much of the twentieth-century housing was built east of High Street, and another 213 homes followed between 2011 and 2021, the draft neighbourhood plan records, so drains range from old clay runs in the village core to modern plastic on the newer roads.
Severn Trent is the sewerage company here, and it told the county council it was not aware of any sewer-related issues during Storm Henk. The Environment Agency's River Trent flood warning area for Collingham covers Ferry Lane Farm, Westfield Farm and the Wharf Bungalow area, according to the neighbourhood plan.
