On 15 August 2020 intense rain flooded five businesses at Ollerton's Forest Centre, according to Nottinghamshire County Council's investigation.
Old Ollerton is the historic village by the River Maun; New Ollerton grew up around the colliery, so the area mixes old stone and brick buildings with 20th-century housing.
Rainworth Water, flowing north from Rufford Abbey, joins the River Maun on the western edge of Ollerton, and the Maun then passes west of New Ollerton on its way to the River Meden. Ollerton Watermill was built on the Maun in 1713 and restored in 1993.
New Ollerton became one of the largest model villages in the Dukeries, with about 932 houses by the Second World War, built by Messrs Coleman and Blackburn. Much of that housing is now nearly a century old, so its original drains are worth a CCTV survey before any major work.
